Hallo!
It's nice to see you here! My name is Mai, I am a Norwegian American woman living in the Pacific Northwest. I am an artist that focuses on painting, and nordic folklore.
All About What I'm Doing Here.
From the beginning, I have always wanted to do something wildly creative. In 2010, the only rosemaling item I owned, a jewelry box my grandmother gifted me, broke for the final time. It was beyond repair. Desperate for a replacement piece, I scoured ebay and thrift shops, to no avail. So, I decided to learn how to do it myself.
Years later, I am now competing in judged shows, and studying with the best of the best. It wasn't until I had visited numerous Nordic and Viking festivals, that I found myself wanting more. I reached back into my childhood remembering the large book of Norwegian fairytales my father brought with him to the states. I felt like these tales were just special stories meant just for me, as none of my classmates seem know them. I know better now, but the attachment to Ashlad, Soria Moria Castle, and the terrible trolls still remains. I want to share it with the world.
I have been primarily a mother and volunteer for most of my adult life. I made it a goal, to be back to working full time in 2025; I figured I would work someplace fun like a museum. In summer 2022, my health took a drastic turn. I started suffering from severe stomach and joint pain. As my focus is there at the moment, 2023 is full of appointments, rehabilitation, and remission. I can't promise consistency because my priorities currently focus on my health.
My hope is this space will fill a purpose of sharing painting/craft tutorials, nordic culture, from my perspective. Sort of a supplemental feeling of a career without the obligations, so I can primarily focus on my health and recovery. Thank you for stopping by!
Ha Det!
